Solar Battery Installation Perth

Get More From Your Solar With Battery Storage

Pure Electrical & Air installs solar batteries for homes and businesses across Perth.

A battery stores electricity generated by your solar panels so you can use it later, rather than sending all of your excess solar power back to the grid. For many Perth households, that means using more of their own solar energy in the evening when the panels are no longer producing much power.

We install batteries alongside new solar systems and can also add battery storage to many existing systems.

If you're considering a battery, we'll look at your current solar setup, electricity use and what you actually want the battery to do before recommending a system.

Solar Battery Installation for Perth Homes & Businesses

There's no point installing a battery that's too small for your daily use or paying for capacity you're unlikely to need.

Before recommending a system, we'll look at how much energy your property uses, how much your solar system generates and when you're drawing electricity from the grid.

Our battery services include:

01

New Solar & Battery Systems

If you're installing solar panels and battery storage at the same time, we can design the two systems to work together from the start.

This gives us the opportunity to properly match your solar, inverter and battery capacity to the property's energy requirements.

02

Batteries for Existing Solar Systems

Already have solar?

A battery can be added to many existing solar systems without starting again from scratch. We'll check your current panels, inverter and electrical setup to determine what battery options are compatible.

03

Residential Solar Batteries

We install home batteries for Perth households looking to store more of their solar energy and reduce the amount of electricity they need to buy from the grid.

04

Commercial Battery Storage

Battery storage can also be used by businesses with suitable solar and electricity usage.

We'll assess your commercial property and energy requirements before recommending whether battery storage makes sense.

How battery storage works

How Does a Solar Battery Work?

During the day, your solar panels generate electricity.

Some of that power is used immediately by the property. If the system is generating more electricity than you're using at the time, the excess would normally be exported to the grid.

A solar battery gives you another option.

Instead of exporting all of that excess energy, the battery can store available power and make it available later. When solar production drops in the afternoon and evening, your property can draw from the battery before relying as heavily on grid electricity.

The result is that you can use more of the solar energy your own system generates.

It doesn't necessarily mean complete energy independence, and we wouldn't promise that it will. Your results depend on the size of the solar system, battery capacity and how much power you use.

But a properly sized battery can give you much more control over when and how you use your solar energy.

What Size Solar Battery Do I Need?

Battery size should be based on your electricity use, not whatever happens to be on special.

Two homes with the same solar system can need very different batteries.

One household might be relatively quiet in the evening. Another could be running ducted air conditioning, cooking, charging an EV and using a pool pump. Their battery requirements aren't going to be the same.

When sizing a battery, we'll look at things such as:

  • Your average daily energy use
  • Evening and overnight electricity consumption
  • The size and performance of your solar system
  • How much excess solar you normally generate
  • Your inverter and existing electrical setup
  • Whether you have an EV or plan to buy one
  • Other large electrical loads around the property
  • What you want the battery to achieve

Bigger isn't automatically better.

We want the battery to be useful in daily life rather than simply installing the largest system available.

Adding storage

Can I Add a Battery to My Existing Solar System?

In many cases, yes.

You don't necessarily need to replace a working solar system just because it wasn't originally installed with a battery.

Compatibility depends on how the current system has been set up. The inverter is particularly important, as some systems are easier to integrate with battery storage than others.

We'll check the existing solar panels, inverter, switchboard and electrical configuration before recommending what to install.

If part of the existing system needs to be upgraded to make battery storage work properly, we'll explain why.

And if your existing setup is fine, we won't recommend replacing equipment for the sake of it.

Are Solar Batteries Worth It in Perth?

This is one of the first questions we'd ask too.

A solar battery is a significant investment, so the numbers should make sense for your property.

The value of battery storage generally improves when you generate excess solar during the day but use a lot of electricity later, once solar production has dropped.

Instead of exporting that energy and buying electricity back from the grid later, you're able to store more of your own power for daily use.

Your actual return will depend on the cost of the battery, your solar production, electricity consumption, tariffs and available incentives.

There can be other reasons for installing battery storage too. Some homeowners want greater control over their energy use. Others are preparing for an EV or trying to reduce their reliance on grid electricity.

We'll look at your usage and help you work out whether a battery is a sensible investment for you.

WA battery incentives

Solar Battery Rebates & Incentives in WA

There are currently government incentives available that may reduce the upfront cost of eligible home battery installations in Western Australia.

The amount you can receive and the conditions attached to the incentive depend on the scheme, battery and installation.

These programs can also change.

Rather than building a quote around an outdated rebate figure, we'll check which incentives are available when you're ready to install and whether your proposed battery system meets the relevant requirements.

If you're comparing quotes, it's worth checking the actual price of the battery and installation as well as the advertised price after rebates.

Whole-home planning

Battery Storage, EV Charging & Your Home

Battery storage becomes particularly interesting as more of the things around the home run on electricity.

Solar panels, batteries, EV chargers, air conditioning and heat pump hot water can all affect when and how much electricity your property uses.

If you're planning to add an EV charger or make other major electrical changes in the next few years, tell us.

It may affect the battery capacity, solar system or electrical work we'd recommend today.

Pure Electrical & Air works across solar, battery storage, EV charging, air conditioning and general electrical work, so we can look at the property as a complete electrical system rather than treating each addition separately.

Common questions

Solar Battery FAQs

How much does a solar battery cost in Perth?

The cost depends on the battery capacity, brand, existing solar system, inverter compatibility and electrical work required for the installation.

Government rebates and incentives may reduce the upfront cost of eligible systems.

We'll assess the property and provide a quote based on the battery and installation required.

Can I add a solar battery to my existing system?

Often, yes.

The main things we'll need to check are your existing inverter, solar capacity and electrical configuration. Some systems can accept battery storage relatively easily, while others may need additional equipment or an inverter change.

What size battery does my home need?

There's no single battery size that suits every home.

We'll look at how much electricity you use outside solar-producing hours, how much excess solar you generate and what you're trying to achieve with the battery.

That gives us a much better starting point than simply choosing a battery based on the number of people living in the house.

Will a solar battery power my home during a blackout?

Some battery systems can provide backup power during an outage, but this functionality depends on the battery, inverter and how the system has been installed.

If blackout protection is important to you, tell us before the system is designed so we can recommend an appropriate setup.

Do I need solar panels to install a home battery?

Battery systems can technically be configured in different ways, but solar and battery storage are commonly installed together so excess solar energy can be stored for later use.

If you don't currently have solar panels, we can look at installing a complete solar and battery system.

How long does a solar battery last?

Battery life varies between manufacturers, battery chemistry, usage and operating conditions.

Rather than choosing purely on advertised capacity or price, we recommend considering the manufacturer's warranty, expected performance and long-term reliability as well.

Can a battery help charge my EV?

A battery can form part of a broader home energy system that also includes an EV charger, although the best way to handle EV charging depends on your solar production, battery capacity and charging habits.

If you own an EV or plan to buy one, let us know when we're sizing the system.

Are there solar battery rebates available in WA?

There are battery incentives available for eligible WA households, subject to current scheme requirements.

Rebate amounts, eligibility rules and approved equipment can change, so we'll check the current requirements when quoting your installation.

Is a solar battery worth installing without a large electricity bill?

Not always.

If your electricity use is already low or most of your power is consumed while your solar panels are generating, the financial benefit of a battery may be smaller.

That's why we prefer to look at your actual energy use before recommending one.
